Baptized in Christ - Jacob Dillon Palcich - 12.23.16 - Grace Lutheran, Brownwood. Great family! Great day!
Good windy, cold evening to all of you! Due to the severe wind and dropping temperatures, we have decided to CANCEL tonight’s scheduled Christmas Caroling. The temperature has dropped 40˚ in the last 3 hours - 31˚ at the church right now @ 6:00 p.m. We don’t want you out in this weather tonight. Stay in where it’s warm! The winds are supposed to abate overnight. Since there is no freezing precipitation with this Arctic Front, we WILL hold Sunday School, Bible Class, and Worship tomorrow at their regular times. Heat is ON in all the buildings now, so it’ll be toasty warm for you in the morning! Blessings, Pastor Curt Office 325 646 2045 [email protected] Cell 325 200 6749 [email protected]
A lovely Dinner for the LWML Evening Circle of Grace Lutheran, Brownwood Christmas party. l-r: Betty Burleson, Florene Goerdel, Carene Baslee, Sally Krause, and Debbie Gierisch who hosted.
Good evening, everyone. It has pleased Almighty God in His wisdom to summon from this life the soul of our sister in Christ and friend Jeanette Marion Pfohl Dunn, age 90. Jeanette died peacefully at Brownwood Regional Medical Center Saturday August 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. following a brief illness. Jeanette’s daughters Janet Tisdale and Sandra Peach were with her, as well as other family members. Jeanette relocated to our area from Chula Vista, California last year. She began worshiping regularly with us at Grace, Brownwood and transferred her membership to us from Concordia Lutheran Church in Chula Vista. After living with Janet & Herb, she moved to Family Care Center a few months ago. She was a delightful person! A Celebration of the Resurrection has been tentatively set for Wednesday August 24, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church at a time to be determined. Committal will take place at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood immediately following the service. A meal for the family will be served at 12 noon in the Fellowship Hall. More details forthcoming as they become available. “I am the Resurrection and the Life.” John 11:25
Good afternoon everyone! After consultation with local meteorologists, observing the radar forecast for this evening, and calling a few of our members, we have determined that holding our Lenten Midweek activities tonight would pose too great a risk for you to drive tonight - particularly for those who live in outlying areas. The temperature at 2:00 p.m. here at the office is 36°, which is a drop of 10° in the last 90 minutes. By the time our 6:00 p.m. supper would start, it will be freezing. And when church is over at 8:00 p.m. I believe the roads will be icy, making the drive home hazardous. Therefore, ALL ACTIVITIES for Wednesday March 4th at Grace Lutheran, Brownwood are CANCELED. Blessings, Pastor Curt
LWML Christmas Party - Fellowship Hall 12.9.14
We pray, good and faithful Lord, that You help us where we lack in our faith. We pray for the enlightenment and knowledge that can come only when You speak and allow Your Word to live among us. We pray for the experience and maturity that comes when we faithfully do as You say and that we experience our own weaknesses and Your abundant loyalty. Above all, we pray for love, for You and for all people we meet so our hearts can comprehend what no words can explain and no amount of thought can understand, that being a portion of Your life and Spirit. Amen.
Lord, may I ask You to be a guest in my home? I believe I can. You visited Zacchaeus because he was a son of Abraham. I am baptized by Your hand. You decided that, not me. If You came that time, I know You won’t refuse now. Therefore, I ask that You come with Your mercy and happiness, and that You allow it to fill my heart and my home. Come, Lord, and fill the workday and the solitude, the conversations and laughter, our labor and pressures. Even emptiness when it comes. Come, Lord Jesus.
Lord, giver of good gifts, You have given me the most marvelous of all gifts, the gift of existence, thought, and a will of my own. Help me use these gifts correctly. Help me to rejoice over them every morning upon waking, rejoice that I belong to the living, that I can see the heavens in all its color, sense every scent, and hear the wind blow. I thank You for the life I receive from You because You wanted me to be Your child and live like You, together with You, in Your bliss, a bliss that’s never ending. Father, Your will be done, as with me. Amen.
A prayer for the Tuesday after Trinity: Dear Holy Spirit, visit us in our congregation. You know how much You are needed. Give us life in our Lord Jesus, so we are motivated by You and do Your will. Give us wisdom, so we always realize what is best for the church. Give us love, so we forget the wrongs and annoyances in life and focus on serving You. Give us Your strength, so we can use every opportunity to help those who have gone astray find their way back to Your Church. Consecrate us, so everyone can see that our church is Your Church, the congregation of the living God.
A prayer for the Friday after Pentecost. Lord Jesus, there is no other name under heaven than Yours by which we can be saved. I know that so well. Let this knowledge live in me. Fill my heart to the brim with the conviction that You are my salvation, that You are the Savior of the whole world. Let this conviction penetrate my thoughts, my feelings, desires, and entire being so I live, think, speak, and act as one who knows that everything depends on You, that You are the beginning and the end, our hope and salvation. I pray to You for the wonderful miracle that only You can perform on us, the miracle performed on the first disciples. Their judges were amazed by their candor, but that’s because the disciples realized they were with You, Lord. Let that happen in my life also. Let others notice that I have been with You. For Your name’s sake.
We are now at the end of the first half of the Church Year, the festive part of the Church Year, during which we see how God revealed Himself in Jesus Christ and sent us the Spirit. Now we have to take the consequences. For those who understand what God has done here, the consequences are inevitable. There is no salvation in any other name than Jesus. That concerns me. I must take all of this very seriously in my life, and let it form and determine my existence. But it concerns everyone else as well. Therefore, the Light should shine forth, visible for everyone. I can’t keep it for myself. If I do that, I deny the fundamental truth that salvation is found in Jesus and in Him alone.
A prayer for the Wednesday after Pentecost. I pray to You, dear Holy Spirit, that You would take me by the hand and lead me in the truth— the wonderful truth that only You can make alive. As long as I look at all this from the outside, as a mere observer, it is dead and strange to me, but when You let me see Jesus, then I realize that I see God. Everything becomes so simple and clear. I know that I possess what I can never understand. I exist in a situation that I cannot comprehend with my own powers of reason. I am carried by Christ’s love that surpasses all knowledge. I have learned to know the Father, not like someone who’s inquisitive, regarding Him from a distance, but like the prodigal son who finally comes home. Dear Holy Spirit, let me see Jesus so I can truly know God and be known by Him.
